When Dr. Jane Foster is teleported to another world and absorbs a weapon known as the Aether, it sets off a chain of events and a catastrophic prophecy. Malekith is awakened by the Aether’s release and sets out to find it, planning to restore the Dark Elves to dominance by unleashing the weapon when the nine realms align during the Convergence. In order to stop this, Thor battles Malekith, destroying him, but when Volstagg and Sif visit the Collector and leave the Aether in his care, it is revealed that the Aether contains an Infinity Stone — the Reality stone.
