This just came across my desk and it’s a big one for the grading world.
Collectors, the company behind PSA, announced on December 15, 2025 that it has entered into an agreement to acquire longtime grading and authentication rival Beckett.
Beckett was founded in 1984 by collector Dr. James Beckett, and it’s been a foundational name in the hobby for decades.
Beckett Media began by publishing sports card price guides in 1984, then expanded into grading with Beckett Grading Services (BGS) in 1999. Over time, the company added major milestones like vintage grading, the Beckett Collectors Club, tamper-proof holders, and an online submission platform.
SCD also notes that while Beckett was once one of the hobby’s leading grading and authentication companies, it has faced financial struggles and lost much of its market share over the past decade.
According to Collectors, Beckett will remain an independent brand inside the Collectors portfolio, continuing with its own operations, customer experience, grading standards, and ongoing work across its marketplace, magazines, and price guides.
Collectors says it plans to strengthen Beckett’s offerings while still keeping the ability for collectors to choose between the two grading companies.
On the operational side, Collectors stated that orders at both PSA and Beckett will continue to be processed normally, and that there’s no change in pricing expected as part of the acquisition.
SCD adds that Collēctīvus, which owns companies including Southern Hobby and Dragon Shield, purchased Beckett in December of last year, and its CEO Kevin Isaacson publicly expressed confidence in Beckett joining Collectors and continuing its legacy.
This deal expands Collectors’ already sizable footprint in the hobby. SCD reports that Collectors’ portfolio includes PSA, PCGS, SGC, and Card Ladder.
We’ll be watching closely to see how this develops, but make no mistake, this is one of the biggest grading headlines in a long time.
