Earth Day stamp art from USPS drops Sat, 22 Apr at 8 AM PT - only on VeVe!

Stamp Art

The Commemorative Stamp Program issues stamps that honor events, persons, or themes. The first stamps were issued by the Post Office Department in 1893. To date, more than three thousand commemorative stamps have been issued that celebrate America’s national history — from animals to plants, people to places, and anniversaries to events. The Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee was established in 1957 and its members use their collective expertise in history, science, technology, art, education, sports, and other areas of public interest, to consider and then recommend stamp subjects to the Postmaster General for final approval.

Earth Day Stamp Art

Since the first observance of Earth Day 53 years ago on April 22, 1970, people have come together annually on that date to raise awareness about the natural world. Every year, millions of Americans mark the anniversary by celebrating the importance of protecting the environment.

Art director Antonio Alcalá was the stamp artist and designer. Ricky Altizer was the typographer.
