About the Artist: Frank Thorne

There are giants in the comic book world and then there are creators who dwarf even the greatest artists. Frank Thorne was one of those legends whose work has redefined fantasy and comics.  His bold, dynamic style blended traditional comic art with a striking sensuality.  His first works were on newspaper strips in the 1950s before moving into and reshaping comics history.

Titles like Flash Gordon and Jungle Jim helped him hone his craft for the definitive run on Marvel Comics' Red Sonja in the 1970s.  In the pages of this fledgling fantasy series, his depictions of the now infamous She-Devil with a Sword, reshaped the genre and designed a new comics legend who still thrives today.
