VeVe Metadata: What You Need To Know

Info about your digital collectibles and digital comic NFTs will soon be viewable on the Immutable X blockchain explorer!

With the VeVe web app now live and available to the public, we are enabling the first phase of our metadata link with Immutable X. A range of information about your VeVe digital collectibles and digital comic NFTs will soon be viewable on the Immutable X blockchain explorer, including the collectible type, edition number, rarity and more!

What is NFT Metadata?

Blockchain networks are great at recording transactions, but they have never been optimal for data storage. This means that the token part of your non-fungible tokens (NFTs) lives on chain, but the actual asset (image files, videos, etc.) and any other information that displays what that token actually represents is typically stored off chain. This information is known as the NFT metadata, and by storing it off chain, we reduce the computational power (and therefore the costs and environmental impacts) of using the Ethereum Network.

VeVe Collectible and Digital Comic Metadata

Although VeVe utilizes Immutable X’s technology to mint NFTs, it is also a standalone platform, and up until now the only place to view metadata for VeVe NFTs was within the VeVe app. Enabling the VeVe metadata link will allow you to view VeVe collectible information on the IMX explorer, Immutascan, and any similar products that can access the IMX API.

Through the VeVe Web Wallet, users can also retrieve their OMI wallet address and search them on Immutascan to view the contents of their VeVe wallets, including the collectible types, editions, brand information, and more. This will also allow users to link a VeVe NFT token ID (viewable on the IMX blockchain explorer) to specific collectibles and comics within the platform.

Wen Metadata?

We are expecting to enable VeVe metadata in early October. Once live, VeVe Collectors will be able to see the metadata for any new drops shortly after the drop takes place.

For any collectibles or comics that were minted before metadata was enabled, there will be a lag time before this information is viewable on IMX. We are working with IMX to make this happen quickly, however, it should be expected to take 6–8 weeks before metadata for all 7.5m VeVe NFTs show on the IMX explorer.

Metadata for VeVe Artwork releases or any items claimed/redeemed with a promotional code will typically be viewable on-chain within 3–4 days of the drop/receiving the collectible, however, this is also expected to be available much quicker in the coming months.

This is the first stage of the VeVe metadata link, and we will continue to provide access to more data points in future updates. In the meantime, you can access additional insights and information on third-party platforms.

We look forward to seeing the tools and utilities the Fam creates using this information!
